Jim Perez has been practicing law in the State of California since 1989. He has handled numerous and varied litigation as well as transactional matters. He has acquired tremendous litigation experience from conducting actions which have included complex multi-party construction defects, residential real estate purchases and sales, boundary disputes, mechanics’ liens, enforcement of homeowner associations’ Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&Rs), and personal injuries, among others.

Jim Perez has obtained substantial transactional experience through drafting, reviewing and revising contracts on behalf of commercial and residential property owners, real estate developers, general contractors, subcontractors, commercial and residential tenants, as well as residential real estate purchasers and sellers.

Jim Perez has represented a diverse mix of clients, including, but not limited to, homeowner associations, single family detached homeowners, townhouse and condominium homeowners, commercial property owners, real estate developers, general building contractors, building subcontractors, commercial and residential tenants and personal injury victims. Notably, Jim Perez handled many wrongful death and personal injury actions arising from the collapse of the Northridge Meadows apartment complex during the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

Jim Perez is also highly experienced in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. He was responsible for the opinion published by the California Supreme Court regarding mediation, Foxgate v. Bramalea, et. al., 26 Cal.4th 1.

Jim Perez has successfully pursued actions against real estate brokers, agents and sellers, insurance companies, banks, real estate developers, general building contractors, building subcontractors, architects and engineers, among others. He has also defended clients in a variety of actions.

Jim Perez has presented seminars on the following topics: Land Movement and Residential Housing; Mold in Residential Housing; Construction Defect Litigation; Mediation Privilege; and, Wild Fire Victims’ Rights.

Jim Perez was admitted to the California Bar in 1989, admitted to the United States District Court (Central District) in 1990, and admitted to United States Supreme Court in 2002. He obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of La Verne and completed classes at the Oxford University Institute on International and Comparative Law in Oxford, England. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Los Angeles.
